Description
In the 1930s, Mohandas, often called Mahatma, Gandhi became the leader of the resistance movement against British rule in India. He championed the use of nonviolence and civil disobedience, such as the collection of salt from the sea in defiance of British laws. In addition to protesting against British occupation, he also worked to end the harsh realities of India's rigid caste system. Copyright The WPA Film Library.
