Description
On July 27, 1953, generals from the United States, North Korea, and China signed an armistice that ended the Korean War. The agreement established a demilitarized zone at the 38th parallel and provided for voluntary prisoner repatriation. The armistice was not a formal peace treaty, however, and U.S. troops continue to be stationed in South Korea.
